Internet Memes

We define a meme in current culture as a cultural anecdote or commentary by means of an image which can stand universally as a symbol of a certain feeling or reaction. 95% of the time, it’s just something simple and quirky that someone puts together and strikes relevance through humor and gains popularity.

I re-stumbled upon the Nigel Thornberry craze. The existence of which originates with trolling, moves past bait and switch, and is uniquely and weirdly its own. The origin of these images and popular music remixes was devised and spread through tumblr, a more creative minded internet community.

The original sound clip:

The Wild Thornberry’s was a popular Nickelodeon show in the 90’s, which definitely died out for at least ten years. A clip from a “YouTubePoop” video featuring a cameo of Thornberry sparked some kind of intrigue and the sensation was born.

Only really humored by primarily English-speaking countries.

There’s no cultural influence. It’s just fun to manipulate status quo things and change perspective. There’s overlap everywhere of this, and the same style of ‘meme’ will definitely continue to be created for the rest of time.
